Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine and appraise the current physical fitness levels of higher education professionals in a selected college population. The 75-member male and female faculty, administration, and staff members were measured using the following physiological variables: cardiorespiratory function, percent body fat, total cholesterol level, resting blood pressure, resting heart rate, muscular strength, and flexibility. In addition, a written health and well-being questionnaire was completed by each subject. All data were reported as means, standard deviations, and percentages on a descriptive basis, using norms and rating from authoritative and respected sources.
The sample population was within normal or average ranges for percent body fat, blood pressure, resting heart rate, and flexibility. The subjects measured below-average cardiorespiratory function, fair muscular strength, and borderline-high cholesterol levels. Additionally, the health and well-being self-appraisal scores were in the good range.
