dc.description.abstract | Previous research has examined L-theanine as a possible supplement that can improve learning and memory and can decrease levels of anxiety, all while being side-effect free and safe to consume. These studies, however, have not used a double blind placebo controlled method. The purpose of the present study was to investigate L-theanine’s effects on learning, memory, and anxiety in college students using a double blind, placebo controlled research design. Two hundred mg of L-theanine or a placebo were administered to 40 college students and performance on measures of learning, memory, and attention was assessed before and after drug administration. The results indicated that L-theanine did not have any significant effects on cognitive abilities or anxiety. Findings from the current research may have differed from previous research because of the sample of participants and the use of a more controlled research design. | |
