dc.description.abstract This thesis discusses the group polarization observed among Kurds residing throughout Turkey and the factors that contribute to the division within the ethnic group. Factors researched include ethnic mobilization, area of residency, political parties and influence of a radical insurgency group. It utilizes a case study approach of Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, as well as, Ireland and the Irish Republican Party. Findings include polarization influenced by all factors discussed; however, the factors cannot be concluded as solely responsible for the polarization observed among Kurds. Each factor combines with previous research to produce the divisions experienced within ethnic minority groups. en_US
